A number of presentations from the Responsibility, Psychopathology and Stigma Conference are now out on Youtube, including my own. To be completely honest, I was uncertain at first of whether I wanted my presentation to go public. You can hear in the recording that that I’m a bit nervous over being so personal – I laugh at several occasions even though nothing I talk about is particularly funny.
I’m still glad that I did what I did; that I openly used examples from my own life of guilt over stuff I’ve done when psychotic. The arguments would have suffered if I had pretended that everything was purely hypothetical and just thought experiments. Further, every person who talks openly about psychoses makes it a little easier to talk about for others – and here, I think those of us with permanent jobs and high job security have a responsibility to act as trailblazers.
